The Fine Art Collection (price tailored to your desired coverage)

Are you a true lover of timeless black & white wedding photography?

In the past couple of years, I have made a return to film photography for all of my personal work. The reason for this is simple, I love the 'purity of the art' of shooting film.

It has definitely made me a better wedding photographer, as I now make every frame count. It is not about 'machine gunning' a scene and hoping for the best, but instead I find myself studying the light and how it can dramatically change something ordinary into something extraordinary. So, rather than having the mindset of 'I will fix that later in PhotoShop,' I tend to wait for the perfect moment.

Another great advantage that film photography has taught me is to not continuously look at the LCD screen on the back of the camera. On the surface this may not seem like a big deal, but it helps to create a way of thinking where I am searching for the next moment rather than studying what I have already captured.

Finally and probably most importantly, shooting with film means that I am able to work closely with my good friend Peter. He is an absolute master of black & white hand printing, with over 40 years of experience at the very top level. To watch him masterfully craft the light onto the photographic paper and then see the image appear as it is placed in the developing chemicals is like true magic. I have witnessed this process hundreds of times and I still find myself as excited as a child on Christmas morning. These hand printed black & white photographs are exquisite individual pieces of art, definitely something to cherish for a lifetime.

Now, this is not a service that someone who is new to photography, has recently brought a sophisticated digital camera and is calling themselves a professional wedding photographer, is going to be able to offer. This is very good news for you, because you definitely do not want them learning wedding photography while shooting your 'special day' memories.

So, what do you get with your Fine Art Collection?

Well, the first thing to note is that I only offer a limited number of 'Fine Art Collections' a year. The reason for this is simple, they are extremely time consuming. The second thing to note is that this exclusive package is offered as an optional extra to my core wedding photography package.

I'll be using the legendary TriX black & white film, which was first introduced in the 1940's. It is an absolute classic black & white film and has been used to capture some of photography's greatest images. The characteristics of this film produce gorgeous results with high contrast, deep rich blacks, clean crisp highlights and classic grain. All of these elements help to produce a black & white photograph with a timeless feel.

Like I have already said, film photography is not a numbers game, but to give you some sort of idea, I will shoot about 5 rolls of 35mm in my Leica and about 2 rolls of medium format film in my Hasselblad.

Peter will then develop your wedding films by hand and contact sheets will be made for easier viewing.

Finally, I will personally select ten of the best images from your wedding day to have large hand printed black & white photos of. These luxurious fine art photographs will be presented to you boxed. I'll also leave you with the contact sheets of your films so that you and your love ones can see all of the photographs and have any additional photos hand printed if required.

I offer my wedding photography services in Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and through out the UK.
